Behavioural Management Systems is a totally private and independent training and consulting business.

We are dedicated to assisting parents develop, implement and monitor programs to decrease the rate, duration and intensity of inappropriate behaviours of their children.

Experts from various disciplines (medical, psychiatric, psychological, social work, speech & language, education, etc) have all contributed to a vast pool of knowledge that can be confusing and is often contradictory.

Behavioural Management Systems helps parents sort through these ideas and assists them in a process that leads to the development of a totally individualized behaviour plan for their own child in their own home.

What Kind of Problems?

Rick meets with parents at a time and place that is convenient for them. Most opt to meet in their home and sessions are scheduled in the morning, afternoon or evening to accommodate the parents' schedules.

Usual Progression

Step #1 - Information gathering
Introductory meeting with parents
History (medical, educational, psychological, etc)
Previous treatment attempts

Step #2 - Assessment phase
Defining behaviour concerns
Categorizing behaviours
Developing an hypothesis of "function" (ie. reasons) for the behaviours

Step #3 - Determination phase
Selection of appropriate interventions strategies based on the assessment phase

Step #4 - Training phase
Instruction in how to implement intervention strategies

Step #5 - Implementation and monitoring phase
Methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies

Step #6 - Ongoing Support and Encouragement
The study of human behaviour is not an exact science. Conflicting perspectives and viewpoints are common. Changing behaviours can be elusive. Success is by no means assured. Behavioural Management Systems will provide analysis, training, resources, referrals, ideas, support and encouragement to parents. There is close monitoring of programs and parent training is ongoing. It should become obvious (observable & measurable) within several months if the developed plan is effective.
